The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village In St. Augustine Receives “2010 Gold Key Award”

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (August 2010) – The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, has received Meetings & Conventions magazine’s prestigious “2010 Gold Key Award,” which recognizes the world’s finest meeting facilities. The resort, which completed a comprehensive $10 million property-wide renovation in 2008, has garnered numerous prestigious awards this past year, which includes Medical Meetings magazine’s “2010 M&D Award,” Meetings & Conventions magazine’s “Gold Tee Award,” and the resort was named one of the “Top 80 Golf Resorts” in the world in a readers’ poll in Condé Nast Traveler magazine. This marks the fourth consecutive year the resort has received the “Gold Key Award.” Together with the adjoining St. Johns County Convention Center and the adjacent World Golf Hall of Fame, the 301-room Northeast Florida resort is the largest combination hotel and conference center between Atlanta and Orlando, with 86,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

The “Gold Key Award” recognizes the top meeting hotels and resorts in the world. Winners were nominated and selected by the subscribers of the highly-read magazine, who are responsible for planning meetings, incentive/recognition programs, and conventions. The winning hotels and resorts will be highlighted in the magazine’s special “Gold Awards” supplement in its November 2010 issue.

“The Gold Key Award sets the bar for excellence in the meetings industry, and we’re very proud to again capture this very prestigious honor,” said Mark Schwantner, general manager of the resort. “It recognizes what an outstanding choice The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village is for meetings, incentive programs, and conventions.” Located within the lush 6,300-acre World Golf Village right next to the World Golf Hall of Fame, the resort completed a comprehensive $10 million renovation in 2008. The project included the complete remodeling of all 301 guest rooms and suites, dramatic changes to the resort’s lobby atrium and entry area, remodeling all guest room corridors, an expanded fitness center with new state-of-the-art equipment, remodeling of its billiard room, and enhancements to the meeting space and business center. The resort also remodeled its restaurant and bar, which opened as a new restaurant and bar called 500 South.

Guest rooms and suites feature a contemporary design with an Asian feel, which includes rich red bed coverings with crisp white linens, and warm neutral gold accents. In-room offerings include flat-panel screen LCD HDTV televisions; the signature Marriott JackPack, which provides connectivity for laptops, MP3 players, digital cameras, and video game players; high-speed Internet access; two telephones with data ports; a wet bar; refrigerator; and in-room coffee.

The resort features a dramatically remodeled 10-story atrium lobby, which has a Colonial/Asian theme, as well as a colorful 7-story modern hanging sculpture that captures the wind and air elements, reminiscent of open Florida skies.
